Prayers needed....

*****UPDATE******
Thank you for your prayers!!! Everything came back normal on Sophie's screenings. As you thank God for sparing Sophie and us any more steps down this road, please lift up the families that have more steps to take. Pray for those babies who may languish in an orphanage because no one notices symptoms, and for the families like yours and mine who were trying to nourish their child with good quality formula only to find out greed of a stranger along the way may have detrimental effects.
And thanks to Him, too, that someone stepped forward before more harm was done.

(and please notice Sarah's birthday blog below!)

I don't have much time to post or link but if you check out CNN's homepage you will see a story about baby formula in China being contaminated with melamine.
They are saying the contamination was from January '08 to August of '08. We received Sophie on January 21st. Our agency was concerned enough to send out a letter asking that any babies adopted from January to August be screened immediately.
We know that the brand most affected in the recall is the brand that Sophie had for 2 months. We can not be sure if her's was from a pre- or post- contaminated batch though.
At best, she had no exposure. At worst, 2 months of pretty heavy exposure.

The effects of the poisoning are just beginning to appear in babies who were exposed. From skin and eye irritation, to kidney stones, to acute renal failure.
As of this morning, 4 babies had died. Nearing 6200 showing signs of exposure. These are numbers in China. I've not heard of any children newly adopted showing signs or at least being reported.

We are taking Sophie in today for several screenings. Please pray. Pray for ease of testing, discernment among the doctors, detection of the slightest thing...for my peace...most of all for the health of every organ in Sophie's precious body.

I will update when I know more.

You can be sure our dear Sophie is in our prayers. We heard of the contamination and never thought it's effects could get this close to home.

With all our love and prayers.

Thanks for the prompt update, Kim. So glad to know that Sophie will not suffer the ill effects. What a blessing!

I had seen that stories on the formula before and never realized Sophie was in that time frame. Overjoyed that she is fine. My heart breaks for those babies in china and their caregivers!

(And Happy Birthday, big girl Sarah)
