The dust settles....and storm brews...

Oh my! What a week!
First, let's announce that Sophie finally has a full name!
Sophie Grace YanXi

Nothing new on the Sophie front. I've found some others that have adopted from her orphanage and they have all had glowing reports of the care of the babies. So that's a good feeling. We also strongly suspect the formula she's drinking is...ummmm...how shall I say...sugar-fortified. :) It's not uncommon in China for them to sweeten the milk a bit...sort of like the difference between sweet and unsweet tea. :) I suspect she'll drop a pound or two when Mommy gets a hold of her. :) Not a huge deal though.

So the dust settled from that storm.

And of course the next one is brewing....

SOMEone kept nagging me to "check the passports" even though I KNEW they were all valid until we would get home. Glen's expires exactly 6 months from Monday. One would think that's ok since we're traveling to and from China during January. One would be wrong. One would be very wrong.
Apparently, you can't even apply for a VISA unless you have AT LEAST 6 months validity left on your passport. Apparently, they mean this very literally. I was down to the FedEx wire and no one I found would try to apply. So, we are now at the mercy of the National Passport Office. Oh the stress. Oh the money. Filled out the application for an expedited renewal (PRAY I DID IT ALL RIGHT!), and dropped it in the FedEx box. Oh the stress that I had to do everything just right...that they have to do everything just right...or else. Oh Abba pah-lease let the passport come without problems and way ahead of time!! Please please please.
Please pray, everyone, that it comes at miracle speed and we can say "God even does passports!!!"

That's all for now...I've got stressing to do. It's amazing how much nothing there is to do for 24 months and then BAM! all of a sudden you think there is no way to get everything done. And that doesn't even count the things *I* really put off!!! :) Yikes.

Why,oh why does the roller coaster
ride continue? I sometimes think it's God's way of seeing how bad we reallllly want this... or could it be He simply wants us to have faith? hmmm. Prayer works and I'm lifting all of you up tonight.

I've got some experience with this, so let me advise you.

Start calling the passport office. Repeatedly. You'll probably need to keep trying all day. The best time is about 6am est when they open, or right before they close (I think midnight). Make sure that your passport is marked expedited (my husband's wasn't). Just keep on checking and begging and telling them a sob story.

My husband and I ran into the same issue. I hired an expediter to drive my passport and application to a central office. My husband mailed (not fedexed, sigh) his passport, and had to bug them repeatedly. It wasn't marked expedited, it wasn't marked to be overnight back...it was a nightmare for a week and a half. I'm convinced that if he hadn't been calling them every day or so, that he would not have gotten his passport in time. This was back in June.

Good luck!

Oh, and the passport office is open on the weekend, which is a great time to call, cuz everyone thinks they're closed.

First of all, I love Sophie's name! :)
We had trouble with that passport business once as well. It isn't impossible to get it in the next few days if you press them with the expediting process!

It will all work out! You are in our prayers!
