It's one of those things you just can't explain. Something catches their attention...and captivates. Bethany Hamilton (from Soul Surfer) is that thing for Sophie right now. Well, has been since we saw the movie last fall. She cries when she hears the theme music because she remembers how Jesus helped Bethany after the attack. And the moment she got the little boy back out in the water after the Tsunami. She repeats that Jesus helped her (Bethany), so she helped him (the little boy). Somewhere along the way when we were watching it, the right words with the right picture and the right music just hit her.
She pretends she's surfing in the back yard. She pretends she has one arm. She pretends to teach the little boy when she's all alone in her room. She puts the theme song on a constant repeat and loves to feel the power of the song.
And, she loves sharks too. Yep. I had to get her a shark book for Christmas...the one that grossed me out the least because they creep me out to look at them. She studies their teeth. Blach! She doesn't seem to associate them with any water she'd be in. Which is good. My dad can tell you that the time I watched Jaws without permission...effectively ended our boating excursions as a family.
We may never get her in the water in Hawaii, but something tells me that wasn't going to happen anyway.
Just one of those memories you want to bottle up. They go so fast.
